WE ARE DRIVING URBAN DEVELOPMENT ON KVARNHOLMEN
Our project office is located at Munspelet, 77 Kvarnholmsvägen.
Kvarnholmen Utveckling AB (KUAB) is leading the urban development of Kvarnholmen and is jointly owned by JM and PEAB. Our work involves collaborating with the Municipality of Nacka to develop detailed plans for approximately 3,500 new residential units and commercial spaces on Kvarnholmen. We are responsible for environmental initiatives and are developing the necessary infrastructure. This involves building new roads, piers, parks, stairways, and utility corridors for electricity, fiber optics, district heating, water, and sewer systems, among other things.
We are also planning various activities around the island and will find ways to bring the necessary services here, such as a local community center, a health clinic, restaurants, and cafés. All of this is aimed at creating a vibrant neighborhood where you won’t have to leave the island to run your daily errands.
However, we don’t build any housing—that’s the responsibility of JM and PEAB.
WE ARE COMMITTED TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Unfortunately, pollution is not uncommon in the Stockholm area, and Kvarnholmen is no exception.
Stockholm has a long industrial history, and according to the County Administrative Board, there are currently over 8,500 suspected contaminated sites in the county. These are locations where contamination is suspected and which must be investigated before, for example, changing the land use. Environmental assessments and subsequent remediation have therefore become a standard part of most major construction projects in Stockholm.
When housing is built on former industrial sites, the legacy left behind by industry—in the form of local contamination—is addressed. With its location and long industrial history, Kvarnholmen is one such site, and urban development here is essential for cleaning up the area. Systematic environmental efforts have been underway here since 2009.
WE ARE DEVELOPING THE INFRASTRUCTURE
Our mission is to ensure that all necessary infrastructure is in place. This means we are building new roads, piers, parks, and utility corridors for electricity, fiber optics, district heating, water, and sewer systems, among other things.
Work is currently underway to complete the south quay and on the plateau.
Streets, parks, and infrastructure are gradually being transferred to the municipality. Issues related to operation and maintenance are increasingly being handled by the municipality. Please contact Nacka Municipality if you have any questions: www.nacka.se.
COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT
We at KUAB have developed many of the historic properties on Kvarnholmen, including Bageriet (Närcentrum), Havrekvarn, and others. We are still working on some properties, such as Munspelet, Magasin 5, Markan, and a few smaller sites. Havrekvarn and Bageriet have been sold to Tilia Fastigheter and are managed by them. In addition, there are a few smaller properties that remain.
DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ZONING PLANS
